Author: dscThe South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC3) has launched a Carbon Free Campaign to reforest areas in South Africa with indigenous trees and have chosen The Parlotones to be the campaign spokespersons. The bands song “Stars Fall Down” is the official soundtrack of the drive and the music video which shows The Parlotones in the near future viewing the burnt out Earth from a spaceship whilst growing a new plant for it will be on high rotation on SABC3 for the duration of the campaign.
“A cause affecting the world, more so the future of the world is global warming. We have been big campaigners for both Earth hour and Live earth, trying to convince fans to change slight living habits to affect a big change.” Says lead singer Kahn Morbee
SABC have partnered up with CarbonWorx (www.carbonworx.co.za) to encourage ordinary South Africans to play a role in solving the carbon emission problem and contributing to environmental change. With a CarbonFree card you can play a part in the restoration of the ecosystem by having an indigenous tree planted in a protected sanctuary. You will receive GPS co-ordinates to watch it grow and earn reward points which can go towards planting additional trees.
The Parlotones are no strangers to the fight against Global Warming and understand the importance of education, lending their high profile to initiatives such as Live Earth, Earth Hour and Live Earth’s Run for Water. The band practice what they preach and embark on Meat Free Mondays doing their best to go beyond the gesture and reduce their carbon footprint.
“We have been honoured to have The Parlotones as part of our global series of Live Earth events in 2007 and 2009. As one of the biggest bands in South Africa, they have made a significant impact in the hearts and minds of their fans worldwide in encouraging them to engage in the issues and be part of the solution,” says Aaron Grosky VP of Control Room/Live Earth
